You'd think Ryan Reaves would be the type of player former NHLer Sean Avery would love. There are a lot of similarities between their games (and differences). But, in true Avery fashion, he just seems to have to go against the grain even on this.
Check Yourself
Avery was on the Quick Shift podcast recently, where he was asked about the little war of words that was going on between Reaves, of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Corey Perry of the Chicago Blackhawks. Avery went off on Reaves.
"What planet do you live on, brother?"
"What is wrong with you? You will be out of the lineup by game 46. Because you're a clock-killer. You can't play in the league anymore. So, please, check yourself when you refer to Corey Perry not being your equal in the toughness department."
Sour Grapes
It appears Avery is more a Perry fan than a Reaves one. But there is something almost ironic with his words. These are the exact kind of things that people said about Avery while he attempted to hang on to an NHL career around 2011.
