It was interesting in an American Hockey League game the other night. Gemel Smith who was a former Dallas Stars 4th round pick, now playing for the Syracuse Crunch, got a little angry with Adam Gaudette of the Toronto Marlies.
Smith has only had 6 fights through his 9 year AHL career and whatever started this the other night, Smith was angry. Smith pulled Gaudette off the bench, dropped his gloves and landed a solid punch on Gaudette, who had yet to agree to the fight.
In the sequence, Smith received a double-minor and Gaudette got 2 minutes for roughing. How was Gaudette penalized at all for defending himself?
