Despite making a huge trade for Jack Eichel last season, the Vegas Golden Knights missed the playoffs for the first time in their franchise history.

This season under the leadership of their new coach Bruce Cassidy, they've rebounded and are now sitting third place in the Pacific division, with a record of 29-18-4, just one point out of first.

The bad news though for a team looking to make it back to the playoffs and try to win their first stanley cup in franchise history is that they're going to have to do it without their best player.

It was announced yesterday that the Golden Knights captain Mark Stone is going to be out indefinitely after undergoing surgery on his back.

The Golden Knights have announced Mark Stone underwent back surgery yesterday and will be out of the lineup indefinitely.

Stone has dealt with injuries his entire career, he has never played in a full season. The closest he got was 80 games back in 2014-15 season with the Ottawa Senators.

Stone had 17 goals and 38 points in 43 games this season for the Golden Knights, but his two-way game makes him more valuable to the team than just his points.

With him being shut down for possibly the remainder of the season, fans are already starting to look at what the Knights could do trade wise to improve their roster. With all of their first round picks available, they could possibly make a move to improve their roster now and just deal with the casualties in the future, like they have been doing in the past.
