Former Rangers first-rounder Lauri Korpikoski retires from the NHL
Today former top 20 selection in the 2004 NHL Draft Lauri Korpikoski has announced his retirement from the game of hockey. He retires after a successful career both in North America and Europe.
A statement provided today by a Finnish media outlet Lauri Korpikoski is retiring. He will do so after spending time in the Finnish Liiga with TPS.
"Korpikoski's long TPS contract ends this season. According to the information received by MTV Urheilu, the puck career of the attacker also ends at the same time.
In the current season, Korpikoski did not play a single match in a TPS shirt. The club announced in early autumn that the player is suffering from an injury that threatens the continuation of his career.
The statement seems to indicate that Lauri Korpikoski is retiring due to a significant injury that prevented him from playing this season. In his 10-year NHL career, Lauri Korpikoski played over 600 NHL games split between the New York Rangers, Arizona Coyotes, Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, and Columbus Blue Jackets. After leaving the NHL he signed a 6 year deal with TPS where he stayed until his retirement.
