New York Rangers forward Blake Wheeler comments on potentially retiring
Former Winnipeg Jets captain and New York Rangers forward Blake Wheeler has commented on potentially retiring this offseason at 37 years old.
Currently, Blake Wheeler is entering the NHL offseason as an unrestricted free agent without a contract. After signing with the New York Rangers last offseason, Wheeler was in the hunt for the Stanley Cup but fell short falling in the Eastern Conference Finals.
During the Rangers' exit interview, Wheeler was asked about potentially retiring this offseason and this was his response.
Blake Wheeler doesn't know yet if he wants to play again. It's a discussion he will have with his wife. He wants to be there for his kids. He's on the fence right now. And if he's done, he said he is content with his career and everything he did as a player.
Wheeler has played in over 1100 NHL games, split between the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, and mainly the Winnipeg Jets, scoring 943 points along the way.
This past year he scored 21 points in 54 games for the Rangers and was able to play in one playoff game after recovering from this injury that looked like it could have been career-ending.
Wheeler will likely make a decision this upcoming offseason on if he wants to continue playing or if he feels his career has run it's course.
More details to come.
