With the 2025 World Junior Championships set to kick off today Swedish superstar defenseman Axel Sandin-Pellikka spoke to the media about the upcoming event.
He is a returning player for Sweden and is expected to be one of the best defensemen in the entire tournament.
During his press conference, Sandin-Pellikka was asked about his memories from last year's tournament and what he learned that he can use heading into 2025.
In his answer, Sandin-Pellikka revealed that he shockingly injured himself after losing in the Gold Medal match against the United States after punching a wall in frustration.
The injury cost Sandin-Pellikka a significant portion of his season in the Swedish Hockey League with Skelleftea AIK.
Now Sandin-Pellikka is using that disappointment as a learning experience to not try and dominate the 2025 edition of the World Juniors.
Today Sandin-Pellikka and Team Sweden opened their tournament against Slovakia.
Many expected the Swedes to dominate the contest and win comfortably but early Slovakia took a lead on a goal from St. Louis Blues prospect Dalibor Dvorsky.
Sweden would come roaring back though and put a stranglehold on the game led by Sandin-Pellikka who ended the game with a hat trick and 4 total points.
The effort from Sandin-Pellikka has firmly placed him in conversations for defenseman of the tournament and potentially tournament MVP through Day 1 of the World Junior Championships.
Ultimately Sandin-Pellikka and Sweden have their sights set on bigger goals as the tournament continues and they hope to get revenge on Team USA.
