Mark Spector put on blast for disgusting comments about Canucks
Sportsnet reporter Mark Spector found himself under fire yesterday after he made some very questionable comments about European hockey players while discussing the Vancouver Canucks.
Spector was asked by a fan how he thinks the Canucks fit into the Western conference picture going forward after they were eliminated by the Oilers in the second round this year. The team appears poised to become a regular contender for the top of the Pacific division in the years to come, but Spector felt the need to criticize the team for being too... European.
Perfect coach for that team.
Miller excellent leader. Hughes will grow. Good D.
Many skill guys either small or perimeter guys. Got pushed out - EL40 esp.
Depth can't all be Euro skill guys. Some? Sure - not all.
Need more Saskatchewan, less Stockholm.
Between Terry Jones, Mark Spector and Jim Matheson, the Oilers have the absolute dumbest group of beat writers in the NHL
Needless to say, fans around the league were not too happy with these comments. One fan pointed to Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl as the perfect counter to his ridiculous comment.
It's wild that Mark Spector clings on to the Europeans are soft stereotype given Leon Draisaitl plays in his own backyard. One of the toughest players of this era. Bro can't see things right in his face.
Even Oilers fans are not defending his comments. Given how tribalistic professional sports tend to be, this is relatively significant. Clearly, even Oilers fans have become tired of Spector's shtick.
Oilers are in the WCF, Evan Bouchard is making NHL history and Mark Spector is finally getting canceled
