Last night the QMJHL draft took place and first overall pick Maddox Dagenais would not play for any team other than the Quebec Remparts forcing a trade, eerily similar to Eric Lindros.

With the NHL draft set to take place later this month, the junior leagues in the CHL are holding their drafts with the QMJHL draft taking place last night. A massive trade went down as the Quebec Remparts traded up for the first overall pick sending many assets to the Cape Brenton Eagles.

Quebec : 1st round 2024 (#1)

Cape Breton : Louca Connolly (04-30-07), 1st round 2024 (#4), 2nd round 2025 (DRU), 1st round 2026

With the 1st overall pick, the Remparts selected 623" forward Maddox Dagenais.

Maddox Dagenais is the first overall pick of the 2024 #QDraft! He joins the Quebec Remparts!

Dagenais was excellent in the OMHA U16 AAA last year putting up 81 points (42 goals and 39 assists) in only 35 games.

Dagenais is going to his father's alma mater as they became the first father-son duo to be selected first overall in the QMJHL draft.

In 1995 the Moncton Alpines made Pierre Dagenais the first overall pick of the #LHJMQ

Tonight, 29 years later, Pierre's son, Maddox, will also be the 1st overall pick of the #LHJMQ by the #Remparts of Quebec who will obtain the very first selection.

It was rumored that Dagenais only wanted to play for the Quebec Remparts and would not have reported to Cape Brenton if they selected him first overall.

Dagenais will now prepare for his rookie QMJHL season and hopefully develop further in preparation for the 2026 NHL draft where he will look to be a high pick again.
