For the past 13 years, the Buffalo Sabres have failed to appear in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the longest active drought in the NHL, but with the arrival of several young stars, the confidence is growing higher for this team. While Tage Thompson, Rasmus Dahlin and Alex Tuch make this team a competitive one, they don't yet have a team that is capable of winning a Stanley Cup, but that could soon change.
In a recent report from Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic, it was revealed that the team are shockingly targeting a blockbuster trade early in the season, and with their regular season already underway, it could be huge for them.
Fairburn may not have named a player that Kevyn Adams and this front office are targeting, but he did reveal that a player such as Jordan Greenway would be a good trade piece if this is the route that they want to go down, with the young star on the final year of his deal along with many other Sabres.
In the top six, Buffalo have Thompson, Tuch and JJ Peterka leading the way, but if they want to be taken seriously as a threat in 2024/25, they need another big name, and a blockbuster trade could be a way to accomplish that. Don't expect anything to happen while the team are in Prague for their opening series against the New Jersey Devils, but once this team arrive home, if they are looking to finally end their lengthy playoff drought, keep a very close eye on this developing situation.
