Weeks of speculation of a draft day trade for Martin Necas came and went with no climax, as Necas would end up re-signing with the Carolina Hurricanes and would not get moved.
Even though he ended up staying in Carolina, media and fans still wonder if he would've liked to be moved, specifically to the Montreal Canadiens. When asked, Necas remarked the following:
"Montreal is one of the greatest teams in the NHL. You see the passion of the fans. I've seen a lot of rumors, but I'm staying here [in Carolina]." - Martin Necas
The dynamic forward, who tallied 24 goals and 29 assists for 53 points in 77 games, seemed to be on his way out of Carolina but came to make amends with head coach Rod Brind'Amour.
"I have to give him more of what he wants and, in return, he will give me the freedom I need to play my style of play" - Rod Brind'Amour
Even then, one might wonder what Martin Necas could've been in a Habs uniform. Seeing as one of his mentors is Canadiens legend Alex Kovalev, who Necas speaks to somewhat regularly.
"He always insisted that I play more inside the faceoff dots. I used to hang out along the boards a lot but in the last two years, I've scored more goals in the crease..." - Martin Necas
