Recently, reports emerged that after a 4-0-0 start to the 2024/25 season, the Calgary Flames were targeting a young upgrade at the center spot, and now it's been revealed that they aren't the only team actively looking to do so. According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Chicago Blackhawks are now looking to do the same, as the team needs to find another star alongside Connor Bedard, who continues to thrive as the top center on this team.
So far in 2024/25 through just seven games, the team has tried many options down the middle, with Philipp Kurashev, Andreas Athanasiou, and Lukas Reichel all getting time at the position, and with the duo of Taylor Hall and Tyler Bertuzzi on the wings, the potential to create a very talented lineup is there.
The most intriguing part of the situation is the depth that Chicago has in the organization, with the likes of Frank Nazar, Oliver Moore, and Sasha Boisvert among others all potential future options for the role. However, with the team looking at an upgrade now, they could look to use one of those pieces in a potential trade to acquire an NHL-ready center as they look to build a talented squad that's ready to compete around Connor Bedard.
With the team rebuilding, it's unclear exactly what they'd be willing to give up for an upgrade, but with Connor Bedard already being a star, it makes sense that they will look to speed up their rebuild in a potential push for a return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
