The NHL season is just around the corner and teams are beginning to finalize their rosters. The Dallas Stars took a big step towards this goal by sending down or releasing a total of 19 players this morning.
Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill has spearheaded a process to create a competitive Stanley Cup favorite in Dallas over the last couple of seasons. The Stars have a good mix of young stars and veterans that will likely make the final roster. The incredible depth that the team has led to several difficult cuts being made.
The Stars announced today that several of their highly drafted prospects are being sent to the AHL for the beginning of the season including Christian Kyrou, Antonio Stranges, and Matthew Seminoff.
Christian Kyrou will be heading into his second AHL season with the Texas Stars. The 2022 2nd-round pick had a successful rookie campaign in the AHL with 23 points in 57 games. In his second season, he will be looking to make a big offensive jump with more opportunities.
Antonio Stranges also spent his first full season in the AHL in 2023-24. He tallied 23 points in 55 games as a forward. At 22 years old the Stars will be looking for the former London Knights product to take a major step if he is part of the team's future plans.
Finally, Matthew Seminoff is a former standout prospect in the WHL who debuted in the AHL last season. He struggled to find much offensive success while playing center putting up just 15 points in 70 games. He is the youngest of this crop going forward at just 20 years old. With the Stars graduating several high-end forwards Matthew Seminoff should get plenty of chances to show the offensive prowess that was so obvious in the WHL just 2 seasons ago.
The Stars will be hoping for all of these players to take major steps forward this season. Over the last 5 seasons, the Dallas Stars have been complimented for their fantastic drafting ability. If these players can continue to develop and show NHL potential praise might only continue to come in.
