Patrik Laine suffered a brutal pre-season injury, and now it appears he will officially miss the first three months of the season for the Montreal Canadiens.

After struggling through the 2023/24 season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, this season was meant to be a fresh start for Patrik Laine with the young, hungry Montreal Canadiens. Unfortunately, that has now been halted, as it has officially been revealed that at the very last, Laine will miss the entire 2024 calendar season in Montreal, putting his recovery at three months minimum.

That news comes from broadcaster Steve Kouleas, who reveals that will be the best case scenario for Laine, who could miss the entire 2024/25 campaign depending on the severity of his injury. Whether Cédric Paré did this intentionally or not, it was a reckless move from the Maple Leafs forward to attack Laine's knee while skating, and now, one of the NHL's brightest young stars is set to miss significant time.

Heading into the year, Laine was expected to play on a line with Alex Newhook and Kirby Dach, finally giving the Canadiens another explosive scoring line in their forward group, although the 26-year old turned up to practice in positive spirits today.

With Montreal looking to complete their rebuild with this current core, Laine, who has hit the goal mark in a single season before, was meant to be a huge part of that, so now, we simply hope that he will be able to get back on the ice at some point this season for the Canadiens.
