David Perron reveals his career with the Red Wings may be over
The Detroit Red Wings choked away their chance to play in the playoffs this season, leaving a bitter taste in the mouths of fans and players alike. Now 25-year-old winger David Perron has revealed that he may not be coming back to the team.
Over the past couple of days, rumored have sprouted, linking Perron to the Montreal Canadiens. Notably, perron is a Quebec native, born and raised in Sherbrooke, about 70 kilometers away from Montreal.
Let's talk about #LGRW forward David Perron speaking on Quebec radio about how much he'd want to play for the #GoHabsGo.
Reportedly, Perron has said it would be a 'dream' to play for the Canadiens. The team has a long history of drafting and signing players native to Quebec, so there can certainly be some interest in the 35-year-old from the team as well. The Canadiens are just starting to try and finish their rebuild. The playoffs might still be a couple of years away, but a strong veteran presence in Perron is invaluable on a young team like Montreal.

All of that being said, Perron has also indicated that the Red Wings have expressed a desire to re-sign him. He says that he is willing to listen and that he would like to stay in Detroit if the team still wants him. The following post has been translated from French.
«Currently, I have no reason not to focus on the team that trusted me 2 years ago... They want to have me back and I would like to stay. » - David Perron
In another interview, conducted in English, Perron went into further detail, thanking the fans while also hinting at a possible reunion with the team this summer.
«I like it here. It's a pretty special place. This building was the best this year. Every single comeback we had, there was a reason we had them. We just felt their support, the fans were incredible, the city in general. For me and my family, we really enjoy it here. There's no reason at this point to think of anywhere else. I hope it works out.»
The Red Wings proved this season that they can be contenders for the playoffs. With a little better luck, they easily would have made it this year. Perron was still solid for them this season so it makes sense that there would be mutual interest in a new contract. We will just have to wait and see what happens this summer.
