Simon Edvinsson scored 1:30 into overtime as the Detroit Red Wings won their fifth in a row, 3-2, over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.
Patrick Kane scored a goal and added an assist to lead the charge for Detroit. Jonatan Berggren added a goal.
Goaltender Cam Talbot stopped 32 shots in net to earn his 250th career win. Kane tallied on the power play in the second, his first since Oct. 24 and third of the season.
This wasn't the only thing that the Red Wings did that caught the eye of the many watching. Jeff Petry was seen wearing an Adidas jersey, which is a big no-no now that Fanatics is the official sponsor of NHL jerseys, despite all the controversy.
It will be interesting to see if Petry and the Wings face any sort of punishment due to this, as fans and analysts await their reasoning behind the sudden switch of jerseys.
Anthony Beauvillier and Bryan Rust each scored for Pittsburgh. Beauvillier, who also scored in Monday night's 7-1 loss to Dallas, kept the Penguins in the game.
The Penguins, before the puck dropped, honored Evgeni Malkin's recent milestone celebrating his 500th career goal scored on October 16 against Buffalo. Alex Nedeljkovic was in net for Pittsburgh, stopping 28 shots against his former team.
The win snapped Detroit's two-game losing streak. The Wings had been beaten 7-1 in consecutive losses to New York and Winnipeg but has now won three of its last five.
Pittsburgh, coming off a poor home loss to Dallas in which they allowed six goals in the first period, was unable to close out the game, as it rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to force overtime.
The Penguins have been doing rather poorly of late as they have lost four of their last five games and ten of their past thirteen overall.
Alex DeBrincat scored 10:50 into overtime, passing from the corner to find Edvinsson open in the slot.
Pittsburgh remains unbeaten in regulation in 13 of its last 15 games against Detroit and has a 10-game home point streak versus the Red Wings since January 2018.
The Wings resume their four-game road trip in Anaheim on Friday while the Penguins visit Columbus.
