The Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames are the most bitter of rivals, but after the recent tragedy rocking the city of Calgary, the team made a very classy move.

On Tuesday, the Edmonton Oilers officially announced the mega contract extension of Leon Draisaitl, with the superstar forward to earn $14 million annually over the next eight seasons.

The move has dominated headlines all day long after the historic, record-breaking deal, but the latest report shows a major amount of class from the Edmonton Oilers organization. According to Andy Strickland, the two parties came to an agreement late last week, but after the tragic passing of former rival Johnny Gaudreau, the team held off announcing the deal as to let the Flames, Blue Jackets and the entire NHL world grieve without taking the spotlight.

Since the shocking accident, there has been nothing but respect between Edmonton and Calgary, with this being just another example that when things like this happen, the hockey world comes together. Still, it's a very classy move from the Oilers, who could have easily announced the extension regardless, but it's a move that will garner plenty of respect around the league.
