The Edmonton Oilers season ended in crushing defeat in the Stanley Cup Finals. For forward Evander Kane the season ended a bit earlier as he missed much of the Stanley Cup Finals with an injury. Now that the season has concluded there have been rumors surrounding the future of Evander Kane in Edmonton.
According to reports from Elliotte Friedman, there are rumblings that the Edmonton Oilers could ask Evander Kane to waive his no-move clause before free agency.
This comes along with the news that the Edmonton Oilers and current GM Jeff Jackson are trying to bring back several players ahead of free agency. Due to the Oilers salary cap situation moving someone like Evander Kane would make that a whole lot easier.
Despite all the rumblings that the Edmonton Oilers plan to ask Evander Kane to waive his no-move clause, it has not happened yet. As of Saturday Elliotte Friedman says the Oilers had not officially approached Evander Kane to ask.
With free agency coming up tomorrow the Edmonton Oilers would need to move quickly if they are going to get out from Evander Kane's contract before things open up. They could also hang on to him until they need the salary cap space for a Leon Draisaitl extension.
As the NHL Free Agency period begins we will likely see a flurry of moves between signings and trades. It will be interesting to see if any of those moves impact the future of Evander Kane in Edmonton.
