The Edmonton Oilers have struggled out of the gates in 2024/25, and now the return date of star forward Evander Kane has seemingly been revealed.

Through seven games of the new season, the Edmonton Oilers have come away with a 2-4-1 record, and while there are no excuses for injuries holding them back, Evander Kane is a glaring absence from this lineup. When the veteran forward underwent surgery, some feared that he could be out for more than half of the season, a major blow to a talented but aging Oilers roster.

Now, Insider Kevin Weekes has revealed the timeline for Kane's return, and while it's not certain at this point, this would be much better than initially expected as his current return date is at least a month earlier than initially expected by the league.

According to Weekes, early 2025 is the return date currently set for Kane after going through several injuries a season ago and given their lack of scoring depth this season, he will be a godsend for this current group.

Last season, Kane tallied 24 goals and 44 points in 77 games played, and with another 8 points in 20 Stanley Cup Playoff games, he has become vital to the Oilers lineup. While he has faced criticism for his lack of physical play up front and his antics in the locker room over the past few years Kane's presence in the lineup is certainly felt for the Oilers, and it is dearly missed right now.

It's unclear when Kane will be back to 100%, and the Oilers may need to accept the growing pains of his return from injury, but for now, he would be a significant upgrade to the middle six for a team that continues to struggle mightily.
