The officiating during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs has been questionable and Edmonton Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm has called the refs out.

The Edmonton Oilers have been playing well through the 2024 playoffs and are currently competing for the birth in the Stanley Cup Finals with the Dallas Stars. As the rounds progress, the games get tighter, and external factors such as officiating can have a greater impact on the game.

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm has not been pleased with the officiating that the Oilers' game two received as he has recently called out the referees for a double standard.

"It's hard, it's physical, it's playoff hockey out there, it just seems to be we need to kill more than we get power plays. Whether that's just the way it has happened or not I don't know."

"I looked at that [Nurse] penalty today and 5 minutes later I get cross-checked right in the same spot" - Mattias Ekholm

Here is the Darnell Nurse penalty Ekholm is referencing.

As it stands, the Western Conference Final is tied at one game apiece heading back to Edmonton where Ekholm and the Oilers will hope for some more favorable officiating.
