Connor McDavid does not have a contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers in place yet and he could potentially walk in the 2026 offseason to New York per Steve Dangle.

Since breaking into the NHL in 2015-16, Connor McDavid has been nothing but dominant with the Edmonton Oilers leading the NHL in scoring on multiple occasions and winning three Hart trophies along the way.

After his entry-level contract expired, McDavid signed one of the richest deals in NHL history to stay with Edmonton for the next 8 years for a crazy $100 million over that period.

However, that contract is set to expire soon, in 2026 to be exact, and McDavid could potentially test the free agent market instead of staying in Edmonton.

On a recent episode of the Steve Dangle Podcast, Dangle and Adam Wylde postulated what the Rangers could do to bring in McDavid.

"What happens when Connor McDavid becomes a New York Ranger? ... If you don't think that NHL teams in the East and in the West are going to at least watch that play out and maybe make room for him."

"I think it would be great for the health and growth of this league, if when the salary cap goes up this season and next year to North of $100 million, and we see all of these teams get a whole bunch of cap space, we can see a very similar Kevin Durant to Golden State situation, where somebody is able to steal a giant player like Connor McDavid to one of these markets and build an awesome super team."

With Artemi Panarin's contract expiring that year, and the cap going up, the Rangers certainly could pull off the unthinkable and bring Connor McDavid to the Big Apple!
