The Calgary Flames are in a surprise playoff spot this season, and now they may be looking to add Brandon Carlo ahead of their post-season chase, with the front office clearly ignoring calls for the team to sell their veterans and instead, they may be looking to buy.
This season has been a wild ride for the Calgary Flames, but with 22 games to go, the team find themselves in the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference with just a few days remaining before the trade deadline.
Despite fans pushing the team towards a rebuild that could net them elite level talent moving forward, it appears the team are hopeful of a major playoff push, and that could lead them to being buyers at the trade deadline.
After already acquiring
Morgan Frost and
Joel Farabee, the team are now reportedly eyeing an addition to their blue line, with reports emerging that Brandon Carlo of the Boston Bruins is a player that the front office has now targeted.
The 28-year old has been a solid contributor for the Boston Bruins, with his 6-foot-5 frame helping him shut down opposing teams, but with a career high of 19 points, it's just not an ideal addition for the Flames.
On top of that, Carlo's contract runs for another two years after this one, and with a $4.1 million salary cap hit, it just doesn't make sense as a way for the Flames to utilize their significant cap space moving forward.
Ultimately, the Bruins being sellers, especially on Carlo make sense given their struggles this season, but for the Flames it would be an interesting move that wouldn't exactly excite their fanbase, but with the playoffs in their sight, anything could happen in the next few days.
