The Vancouver Canucks don't appear ready to extend Brock Boeser, and new reports suggest other teams aren't willing to meet their asking price on the star winger.
The past few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind in Vancouver, and even after the team finally moved
J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers, trade speculation continues on.
The latest target of those rumours has been Brock Boeser, who will be a free agent this coming summer, with a trade, an extension or him walking into free agency all still reportedly in play.
Now, top Canucks reporter Rick Dhaliwal has revealed that the two parties aren't close on an extension, stating that within the next five days, they're highly unlikely to reach a deal.
"They couldn't cut a deal in 8 months; how are they going to cut a deal in 5 days? It would be shocking to me if they cut a deal in 5 days.."
The most interesting part of that report however came in his later comments, as Dhaliwal revealed that contending teams seemingly aren't willing to part ways with a first-round pick for Boeser.
The problem is, only playoff teams want Boeser, and most of them are tight up against the cap. Not many of those teams want to cough up a first-round pick for Boeser.
That's not to say that there's no team out there willing to do it, but with the Canucks wanting to get back the best possible value, no one thus far has come up to their required asking price.
This is for a player coming off a 40-goal season in 2023/24 that would undoubtedly help teams in their race for the Stanley Cup, but the closer we get to the deadline, the more likely it is that teams are willing to meet the asking price, so the next few days in Vancouver will be very intriguing.
