Recently, Patrik Laine has been the chatter of the NHL after he shared how the Blue Jackets organization lacks culture and led to him requesting a trade. Rightfully so, this bothered the Blue Jackets players as they decided to send a message to Laine and the Habs.
This came in the form of more physical play and possibly targeting Laine with clean but hard hits throughout the game. He reportedly was hit four times, the last one coming from Dante Fabbro before he left the game.
We now have an official announcement from the Canadiens revealing Laine's injury status.
The Canadiens listing him as day-to-day is actually quite encouraging as he could return to action without missing a game due to the holiday break. Their next game will be against the Florida Panthers in three days on December 28th.
The Canadiens will need Laine for their game against Florida as the Panthers have been surging in the NHL standings sitting atop the Atlantic division. Meanwhile, the Canadiens are 6th in the Atlantic and a sizeable gap behind the Ottawa Senators for 5th.
Since Laine returned from injury, the Habs have been performing better going 6-4-0 in those 10 games and Laine tacked on eight goals in that period.
We will now await further updates on Laine and hopefully see him return to play for the Canadiens. With his ability to shoot on the powerplay, he has been one of their most dominant players in recent memory.
