The path for Hyman to get to the NHL has been far from conventional, however, he is still impressive scoring 54 goals last year. Recently, Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli has reported that Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman still has a shot at making the Four Nations Face Off roster.
After originally being snubbed from the Team Canada roster, Hyman has responded in a large way by scoring three goals in just two games since then.
Admittedly, Hyman has not had a hot start to his 2024-25 campaign, as have the rest of the Edmonton Oilers, who currently sit at fourth in the Pacific division. Scoring just 11 points in 22 games thus far, Hyman's recent production could be an indicator of why he was left off the team.
Considering Hyman's well-documented chemistry with Connor McDavid, who play on the top line together, it could be a fit for Canada, especially on a powerplay that could use a net-front presence.
Despite loads of skill from players like Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, McDavid, and Cale Makar, not many can provide the value that Hyman does within six feet of the goal.
While there still is a chance that Hyman makes the roster, it would require him to improve his scoring pace to around where it was last season and an unfortunate injury to one of the players currently on the team.
Only time will tell whether or not Hyman can sneak into Team Canada's roster, which he has never done before at any level, and complete the ultimate underdog story.
