The Oilers went ahead with the controversial Stan Bowman hiring, and now fans are furious after hearing how little their star players had to do with the decision.
After weeks of speculation, the Edmonton Oilers officially revealed Stan Bowman as their General Manager on Wednesday, much to the dismay of fans who did not believe he deserved the role after the 2010 Chicago Blackhawks scandal.
Now, a follow up report has revealed things are even worse than first expected for Edmonton, as their two biggest stars were not even consulted about the decision, and given their free agent status, that's one of the worst ways to go about it for Jeff Jackson.
"Of course I talked to Daryl Katz extensively about it and some of the other people in management. I did not talk to the players." -Jeff Jackson on looping in McDavid and Draisaitl on the decision
Sure, the ultimate decision lays with the front office, but given how crucial those two stars are to your Stanley Cup chase in 2024 and the future of the team, not looping them in was a ridiculous move. It's safe to say that fans, who were already upset about the decision didn't take kindly to this news.
There's always a chance that this doesn't effect their free agent status, but given Bowman's incompetency as a GM in the past alongside his dreadful moral compass, this could backfire in a big way for the Oilers.
