Elliotte Friedman has broken the news as to how much money Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg wanted versus what they actually got, and it's shocking.

St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong shocked the hockey world when he offer sheeted two Oilers players and now Edmonton has less than seven days to match it, or risk losing them. Word has just broken out by Elliotte Friedman that both Oilers players had asked for significantly less money than what the Blues just threw out at them, and this is going to make the hearts of Oilers fans sink.

On his 32 Thoughts the Podcast show, insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that Philip Broberg asked for $1.8M and has now received a whopping offer of $4.5M from the Blues. Dylan Holloway wanted $1.2M from Edmonton, and he is looking at a $2.29M salary from this offer sheet. It's safe to say the Oilers really messed this one up.

Elliotte Friedman also mentioned that Edmonton wanted to sign both players last season, but Philip Broberg refused to engage in any negotiations during game action and wanted to wait for the summer.

The Blues also circled in on these two Oilers players during last year's trade deadline but Edmonton ultimately decided they didn't want to part ways with them. The Blues definitely came back to them this summer in a very aggressive way with these offer sheets.

There have only ever been two successful offer sheets in NHL history where the team receiving the offer decided not to match. Those were Dustin Penner, who came to Edmonton from Anaheim, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi who went from Montreal to Carolina. It appears that the Oilers are going to have a very hard time matching these offer sheets as they are currently over the salary cap, so these two players will likely end up with the Blues by the end of the week.
