After a career high of just 21 goals in his time with Edmonton, Zach Hyman has taken a major step forward in Edmonton, tallying career highs in each of his three seasons, culminating with goal No. 50 on Sunday. As usual though, social media had to have their say, with one user going out of his way on X to point out how 'unethical' his 50 goal achievement was.
The video that the user on X made showcased every single goal Hyman has netted this season, with 35 of the 50 coming via tip or a scrappy play around the net, which has been something frequently brought up throughout Hyman's time with the Edmonton Oilers. However, with skilled players such as Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in the lineup, Zach Hyman has done exactly what he needed to not only maximize his potential, but also be what those teammates needed as he tallied 50 for the first time.
No matter what some athletes do, they will always face criticism, and while you can argue that Hyman doesn't have the skill of other star forwards, it turns out that he doesn't need it to be successful. Now, the real test for Hyman and the Oilers is approaching in the playoffs, and if he can have this type of success when the pressure is at its highest and then replicate this success in 2024-25, there's no one that will be able to complain about what he's done in his NHL career.
