Last night the Florida Panthers and New York Rangers game reached a new level of intensity including a missed ejection when Chris Kreider threw Matthew Tkachuk's mouthguard.

Early in the third period with the New York Rangers down by a goal a scrum began. The scrum involved Rangers forward Chris Kreider and Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk. As the two players were trash talking back and forth Matthew Tkachuk's mouthguard fell on the ice. A few seconds later Chris Kreider picked up the mouthguard and chucked it into the crowd.

With this action, Chris Kreider broke a rule that should have led to an ejection from the referees immediately. The rules state that players are not allowed to throw any other object or piece of equipment out of the playing area.

Game Misconduct Penalty- A game misconduct penalty shall be imposed on a player who intentionally throws his stick or any part thereof or any other object or piece of equipment outside the playing area.

With how clear it was that Chris Kreider threw the mouthguard out of play directly in front of the referee it is amazing he was not ejected. The NHL could sned supplementary discipline Chris Kreider's way after the fact but if anything it will just be a fine.

Game 5 will likely be a turning point in this series. Chris Kreider and the New York Rangers will have to control their emotions better if they want to get back into the win column and regain the lead in the series.
