Jake Evans potential new deal has been the talk of the town in Montreal this season, but now, a top insider confirms his time as a Canadien is running out.
This season has been a rollercoaster in Montreal, with the team finding themselves in a surprise battle for a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, but with a six point gap now opening up, they may be falling off for good.
While that's news that no Canadiens fans wanted to hear, it does give the team some clarity on how they want to proceed moving forward with some of their free agents, as top NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun has now revealed that the team are ready to move on from Jake Evans.
According to LeBrun, the two parties have been talking terms on an extension, but reportedly aren't close at all, with the team now more likely than not to move on from the 28-year old.
When asked about his time in Montreal, it appears as though Evans sees the writing on the wall as well, as he looked back on his time as a Canadien fondly, with the realization that he may not be with the team for much longer.
«It's been an honour. It's such a fun place to play, it's such a great place to live, and I've just really enjoyed it. It's truly an honour. There's so much tradition here, so many great players that have worn this great jersey with pride, and it's truly an honour.»
Despite being a fourth liner, Evans is on pace for a career year in 2024/25, posting 11 goals and 27 points in 56 games this season, and while that production may not last, they need to cash in now and get whatever they can for him, and in a sellers market, that may be good for their return.
