The New Jersey Devils tried hard to land Jacob Markstrom at the deadline, but ultimately ended up with Jake Allen, who will be the teams No. 1 as they look to make a surprise playoff run this season.

Jake Allen blocked a trade to New Jersey already this season?

After practice with the Devils, Allen was asked about the move to New Jersey, and dropped a shocking revelation that he already blocked a deal to the team earlier in the season.

Jake Allen after practice said Devils tried to trade for him earlier in the year. He didn't waive NTC bc at the time w/Vanecek/Schmid he didn't see a future/ playing time in NJ.

IMO: Allen would have played & Schmid would have gone down. #njdevils

Allen reveals that the reason he blocked the trade was that with Vanecek and Schmid on the roster, he didn't see much playing time, but with the team moving on from Vanecek to land him at the deadline, the move made much more sense.

With the Montreal Canadiens continuing their rebuild, this opportunity allowed Allen to not only get playing time, but play behind a talented roster that are looking for a playoff run, and while their season hasn't gone the way they expected, New Jersey is a major upgrade over Montreal.
