The New York Islanders have underwhelmed over the past few years, and now GM Lou Lamoriello has revealed two names they're ready to move on from.

Lou Lamoriello has drawn plenty of criticism as the General Manager of the New York Islanders, but with a solid core intact, he appears ready to continue pushing for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The team has missed the mark for the past few years, and now in a recent interview, he has revealed that they are preparing to move on from two solid names in Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck.

«We'll probably be moving on,» Lamoriello told The Post. «That isn't saying things can't change. We're talking about two veterans, two quality individuals. Two team leaders and two real good hockey players, so we'll have to see how things come about. But we haven't changed our thought process today any different than the last time we spoke.»

Matt Martin is a 35-year-old veteran who has spent 13 of his 15 seasons with New York, with the physical left winger topping 15 points a season just twice in that span. As for Clutterbuck, he has spent the last 11 seasons in New York, not surpassing 20 points in a single season since 2018, showing that the team is potentially preparing for a shift in play styles moving forward.

Lamoriello didn't elaborate on replacements for either player or reveal when we will hear more about their futures on Long Island, but for now, the team could be losing two solid veterans, and while it will open up space for younger names, it will see the team move on from two leaders that have been with the team for a long, long time.
