New York Rangers rookie Matt Rempe has quickly made a name for himself as one of the NHL's biggest goons. Today he showed his true character when he signed a picture of a Devils player he injured.
Rangers rookie crosses the line with controversial picture signing
A picture emerged on Facebook today of New Jersey Devils forward Nathan Bastian sitting on the ice in pain after he received a high hit from Rangers rookie Matt Rempe. Making matters worse is the fact that Rempe signed the picture. According to the Facebook post, Rempe was laughing when he signed the picture and said that "MacDermid is next."
My friend saw this on Facebook today.
Rempe is a scumbag
Imagine signing a photo of a player you injured that you aren't even IN?
The picture is from a game last month when Rempe was given a major penalty and a game misconduct for hitting Bastian in the head.
Matthew Rempe was given a match penalty for this hit on Nate Bastian Rempe mentioning MacDermid is notable because the two players already have a history. Rempe was ejected once again the last time the Rangers played the Devils for a hit on Jonas Seigenthaler that resulted in a four-game suspension. After the hit, MacDermid tried to fight Rempe but he refused, seeking the protection of the officials as they escorted him off the ice. After the game, the Devils defenseman disclosed his displeasure with the Rangers rookie.
"There's a right way to go about things and a wrong way. I lost a lot of respect for him tonight."
MacDermid was not impressed with Rempe not respecting the code.
