The New York Rangers have traded their last three captains, including Jacob Trouba this season, and now it appears Vincent Trocheck is next in line for the 'C'.
This season has turned into an utter disaster with the New York Rangers, and it all began with speculation surrounding captain Jacob Trouba, who the team would ultimately trade to the Anaheim Ducks.
While most of the time since then has been spent trying to figure out how to stop the downward spiral the team has been on, there has been one clear option emerging to replace Trouba as captain of the Original Six franchise.
Reporter Remy Mastey has a clear idea of who should be the next captain, and while the situation in New York is murky, it's Vincent Trocheck who has emerged as a leader during this time, as he has become the favorite to be the team's next captain.
While there are several veterans on the team capable of leading, having a captain is important, and filling that void now is exactly what this struggling team could use.
Naming Trocheck as captain would set a precedent that the management group actually does believe in this core despite reports stating the contrary.
It would also help calm all of the outside noise down, shifting the focus from their struggles and trade drama.
Fans of the Rangers are split on the decision, and while some see the clear leader that Trocheck has become, most would like to see someone under the age of 30 given the role, with Adam Fox another potential candidate.
It's unclear at this point in time whether or not the team will look to name a captain this season or wait until the off-season when the plans become clear, but regardless of when it's done, Trocheck is reportedly a major name to look out for.
