The New York Rangers were ready to move on from Chris Kreider early in the season, but now it appears the longest-tenured Ranger is here to stay.
Over the past few weeks, the New York Rangers have moved on from captain Jacob Trouba and young forward Kaapo Kakko, with many believing General Manager Chris Drury wasn't done making moves.
After the original report that shocked the NHL world, many believed that Chris Kreider would be that shock move, but now, Arthur Staple of The Athletic has reported that the team intends on holding on to the veteran forward.
"Unless Drury is adamant about moving on from the closest thing the Rangers have to a lifer - which would mean essentially dumping Kreider for little return, since there's probably not a robust market for a 33-year-old who's got two years at $6.5 million left - then I think Kreider stays," Staple wrote.
That doesn't 100% confirm that the team isn't moving him, but unless things deteriorate even more with the 333-year-oldveteran, he's likely set to be a Ranger for life.
"If things continue to deteriorate this season Kreider's spot may change, but for now, he wants to be here forever."
After posting 52, 36, and 39 goals over the past three seasons, the veteran hasn't been on top of his game in 2024/25, tallying just 11 goals and 12 points in 29 games thus far, as he has become a major target for the criticism of Rangers fans given their recent play.
The belief in the room is still that they can turn things around and make the push for the Stanley Cup that was expected of them in the pre-season, but with all of their veterans at well below their best right now, more shakeup could be coming in New York.
