Since breaking into the NHL and making headlines for dropping the mitts, Matt Rempe has made it a habit to get ejected for laying some incredibly dirty hits. Through 22 career games, Rempe has been ejected four times while scoring only two points and registering a whopping 94 penalty minutes.
Last night, he was ejected for this unacceptable hit on Miro Heiskanen.
Aside from the fact that Heiskanen could have been seriously injured in the play, Rempe made no move to avoid head contact and had his elbow collide directly with Heiskanen's head.
George Parros and the NHL Department of Player Safety have taken note and offered Rempe an in-person hearing for his hit, meaning he could be suspended more than five games for the hit.
Previously, Rempe has only been suspended once and it was for four games for this hit on Jonas Siegenthaler.
Considering how this hit will now be Rempe's second offense, there is a solid chance he will be suspended longer than four games and could be suspended till games in 2025.
For a player, only 22 years old, to be facing his second lengthy suspension for a very similar infraction, the NHL DoPS will look to ensure he cleans up his play but not be lenient on him in the slightest.
Fortunately, on the other hand, Miro Heiskanen did not miss a beat and was able to continue the game following Rempe's ejection.
