Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk hasn't seemed to mind the fuss made over rumors of a possible link to the New York Rangers in recent days.
It was noted that Tkachuk could be a player the Rangers may look at following their moving of Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks. Such rumors had Senators owner Michael Andlauer bashing the Rangers for "soft tampering."
Asked about the rumors, the 25-year-old related he hadn't read the reports and reaffirmed a commitment that was absolute to the Senators.
Brady Tkachuk is signed with Ottawa through 2028 carrying a cap hit of $8.205 million, a deal indicative of his team's valuation of him.
The trade rumors brought out a show of solidarity from within the Senators organization. Andlauer's public defense of Tkachuk marked the second high-profile show of support for the captain in recent weeks.
Head coach Travis Green had also defended Tkachuk in late November, emphasizing how valuable he is to the team and dismissing criticisms of his sometimes fiery on-ice behavior as unjustified.
A fourth overall pick of the Senators in the 2018 NHL Draft, Tkachuk has become the heart and soul of this hockey club. He was given the captaincy in 2021 to solidify his leadership role both on and off the ice.
Currently, in his career to date, he has accrued 378 points in 467 games, including 29 in just 27 this season alone. His passion and continued production are the anchors for this hungry success the Senators are chasing this season.
