Former 2019 first-rounder Lassi Thomson leaves the NHL for Europe
Back in 2019, the Ottawa Senators drafted Lassi Thomson in the first round and now just five years later, he is already leaving the NHL.
Today it was announced that Lassi Thomson has left the NHL for the SHL signing with the Malmo Redhawks.
Here is our latest new acquisition, Lassi Thomson!
"My expectations are of course high. I know the team didn't make the playoffs last season, so to get there is a big deal."
Thomson was originally drafted in the first round of the 2019 NHL draft going 19th overall. He has played in 18 career NHL games scoring zero goals and five assists. He was placed on waivers multiple times this past season getting claimed by the Anaheim Ducks once and then getting placed on waivers again getting reclaimed by the Senators.
He spent this entire past season with the Belleville Senators of the AHL seeing his scoring decline from 33 points to only 21. He will now look for a fresh start overseas.
