Columbus Blue Jackets and American forward Johnny Gaudreau took a massive hit from Patrick Koch that sent him to the locker room injured during the IIHF World Hockey Championship.
After having his season end when the Columbus Blue Jackets were eliminated from playoff contention, star forward Johnny Gaudreau wanted to continue playing and decided to represent Team USA at the IIHF World Hockey Championship.
During today's matchup against Slovakia, Slovakian and former Arizona Coyotes now Utah HC defenseman Patrik Koch laid Gaudreau out with a massive hit.

Clearly quite the nasty hit from Koch.
It was later announced by Steven Ellis that Gaudreau returned to the bench.

This play does raise questions for NHL GMs as while their players may want to continue to play after the season is over, there is also a risk of injury and if this was worse, Gaudreau could have suffered a concussion or a neck injury that could force him to miss NHL games next season.
