The Ottawa Senators trade of Jakob Chychrun was baffling at the time, and now, Frank Seravalli continues to blast the team for the move.
After a year where their expectations were severely under delivered upon, the Ottawa Senators and Steve Staios made it their mission this off-season to upgrade the roster to where they may be Stanley Cup Playoff contenders. That started strong with the trade that allowed them to not only offload the contract of Joonas Korpisalo, but give them a Vezina Trophy winning goaltender in Linus Ullmark.
Linus Ullmark has been traded to the Ottawa Senators for Mark Kastelic, Joonas Korpisalo, and a 2024 1st round pick Despite the high of that move and the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, the team followed it up with the dreadful Jakob Chychrun trade, and while the move to trade him wasn't a bad idea in theory, the return was incredibly underwhelming.

Les #Sens ont acquis le défenseur Nick Jensen de Washington. Now, over 10 days later, Insider Frank Seravalli is still puzzled as to why the team made this deal, blasting them on the latest episode of his show;
"I thought that Jakob Chychrun trade was the move of the offseason," revealed Seravalli. "Someone is gonna need to explain that to me from an Ottawa perspective. I don't understand it at all and I've had a week to think about it and I still can't wrap my brain around it."
"A couple of years ago a first and two seconds, Nick Jensen?" said Seravalli. "I understand you're trading left shot for right shot and you're always gonna be at a disadvantage, but that's the best deal you could make for Jakob Chychrun? There's no way that's the best deal they could possibly make."
The team clearly wanted to move Chychrun to upgrade the blue line and avoid losing him for nothing in free agency, but this deal was a major bust for Ottawa, with Seravalli and many others pointing this out.
