At the trade deadline, the Philadelphia Flyers brokered a trade with the Colorado Avalanche and it appears that there was some malpractice from Colorado.

Colorado Lies To Briere During Blockbuster Trade

At the trade deadline, the Colorado Avalanche and Philadelphia Flyers brokered a trade involving top defenseman Sean Walker and centerman Ryan Johansen.

The 2025 first-round pick is top-10 protected.

After making the trade, the Flyers had no intention of playing Johansen by placing him on waivers. However, Johansen unwilling to report to the AHL, claimed he was struggling with a back injury that the Flyers were not told about during trade negotiations.

Briere said the following on the matter:

"He claimed to be injured when we traded for him, so we had him see the doctors. They found an injury, so now he's going to be rehabbing. You can't send down a player who's injured, so he's going to be doing rehab until we don't know when. So, he's back on our roster doing rehab and trying to get better."

This threw a massive wrench in the Flyers' plans as they now had less cap space than originally intended and were unable to make more moves than they may have wanted to make.

This saga may come back to bite Colorado in the rear as if Briere and the Flyers were to file a complaint with the NHL, the Avalanche may be forced to pay reparations.
