For quite some time, the Philadelphia Flyers have been trying to get Alexei Kolosov to North America to join the organization, but with a KHL contract standing in the way, it's been much more difficult than first anticipated. Now, according to Elliotte Friedman, things have changed in a big way;
According to his report, Kolosov and the Flyers have worked out a deal to bring him to North America and get him in some pre-season games and potentially with the Flyers top team, and if things don't work out this year, he would head back to the KHL. As of right now, the Flyers have some very solid names in net with Ivan Fedetov, Samuel Ersson and Cal Peterson, but given Kolosov's clear talent, the team have a major plan for him moving forward.
The Flyers drafted Kolosov in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft, and while he played in two AHL games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms a year ago, he's not got any significant opportunity to play in the NHL yet. In those two games, Kolosov was solid, stopping 46 of the 52 shots that he saw, but with a 2.39 GAA and a .907 save percentage in 47 KHL games with Dynamo Minsk, it's clear that he can be a game changer at the top level.
With several pre-season games remaining, now he has the chance to show what he can do against legitimate NHL competition, and while it's unclear where he fits in with the current goaltending group, the team have a plan for him and will do what's best by him in the coming weeks and months.
