Sean Couturier's NHL Career Might be Coming to an End
In a recent tweet from their official Twitter account, the Philadelphia Flyers reported that their team captain, Sean Couturier will be missing an upcoming road trip due to an unspecified upper body injury.
Here is the tweet breaking the news:
Many fans are speculating that this recent injury, combined with the frosty relationship that exists between Couturier and the Flyers head coach, John Tortorella, might mean that Couturier's NHL career is done.
Here are some replies from fans, reacting to the news:
Tortorella's went off on the Flyer's for their recent loss against the New York Islanders, which could help us understand why the relationship between Couturier and Tortorella is strained
On Monday night, the Flyers faced off against the New York Islanders, the Islanders won the game in overtime, with a final score of 4-3. Tortorella was unhappy with his team's performance.
During a post game interview, Tortorella took the time to call his team's performance "soft" except for the performance of Ivan Fedotov, the goalie.
Here is a video of the interview:
Tortorella was asked a day later if he regretted his somewhat harsh comment on the team's performance, he took the opportunity to double down on his previous statement, saying:
"If a player is going to quit on me, or players or going to quit on me because I'm trying to make them better people and better athletes, you've got the wrong damn coach here, and you've got the wrong damn people here,»
«My job is, I'm going to push athletes. . . I was in control the other night. What I said I meant. And, quite honestly, when I watch the tape now, I'm more concerned than just the second period. Because of, I'm so proud of the team getting here."
Tortorella seemed to be more optimistic in this second interview, stating that he has the player's best interest in mind, and wants to help players become better people and athletes.
Tortorella finished the interview with a comment stating that he believes the team has a chance at a playoff spot, and on why he was frustrated with the team's performance against the Islanders, stating:
«And I guess now that narrative out there is, because I've heard from other people, is that they're young, they're not supposed to be here bullshit! We're here! We're here; face it!
I don't think we're ready to be better, and that's my problem with us right now, And it is my job. I have not done a good enough job to get them over the hump after playing those seven games. I haven't done a good enough job to make them understand we have to be different now. We have to be at a different level.
That's my frustration with me, and that's my frustration with the team. If people can't handle it, so be it.»
It seems that Tortorella is ready to push his team to their absolute limits to ensure they have a good shot at the playoffs.
