Top prospect Matvei Michkov defects and comes to the NHL two years early
Top prospect Matvei Michkov was under contract with SKA till 2026 but he is reportedly coming to the NHL far earlier than anybody else expected.
During the 2023 NHL draft, one of the biggest storylines was where Matvei Michkov would be picked. The forward had a three-year contract with SKA of the KHL adding a lot of uncertainty to his situation. It looks like that uncertainty will be ending as he will be coming to the NHL two years early.
Matvei Michkov is reportedly leaving the KHL and joining the Philadelphia Flyers for the 2024-25 season.
I'm told that it looks like Matvei Michkov is leaving SKA and will be joining the Philadelphia Flyers.
Michkov will now be represented by CAA.
Michkov scored 41 points in 47 games for HK Sochi last year being by far their most productive player as a teenager. We will now see how he performs in the NHL next year with the Flyers who took a chance on him at 7th overall.
