The Pittsburgh Penguins have struggled to find their way this season. With an aging roster and a subpar prospect pool, the team looks to be in a rough state. With Sidney Crosby's contract ending after next season, contract terms have been revealed that would keep Sid around in Pittsburgh despite the direction of the team.
Insider Reveals What It Will Take For Sidney Crosby To Sign An Extension
A report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed that Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins are in contract negotiations. With the negotiations underway, Friedman has a sense of what it will take for Crosby to stay in Pittsburgh and it seems to be a big raise.
Friedman on 32TP guesses Crosby's next deal with Pittsburgh will be 3x10 or 3x10.5.
Crosby who is currently signed to an 8.7 million dollar AAV would get almost a two million dollar bump in pay. This deal would also keep Crosby in Pittsburgh into his 40s.
Will Crosby Finish His Career In Pittsburgh?
This season has been a major disappointment for the Pittsburgh Penguins. The lack of success on the ice and the lack of high-end prospects coming to the NHL soon has fans worried.
In Sidney Crosby's case, he could play for just about any team in the National Hockey League and be the best player. This means the Penguins need to convince him why they are the best fit. This season will go a long way in determining that.
If the Penguins have a good offseason and get back on track next season the discussions disappear. However, if they lose Guentzel and do not make any major moves the questions will only get louder.
It would be odd to see Sidney Crosby in any jersey other than a Penguins jersey however it is never impossible.
