Odd homecoming for Matt Grzelcyk after joining Pittsburgh Penguins
After playing his entire career with the Boston Bruins, Matt Grzelcyk has decided to pack his bags and join the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Grzelcyk was an unrestricted free agent and was signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins to a one-year deal valued at $2.75 million. Despite having played his entire career with Boston so far, Grzelcyk experienced quite a bit of major career milestones while playing at PPG Paints arena in front of the Penguins fans.
It all began at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft when Grzelcyk was selected by the Bruins in the third round right at PPG Paints arena.

Another bizarre situation occurred when Grzelcyk played his first NHL game. That moment happened right at PPG Paints arena. Not only did he play his first NHL game against the Penguins at PPG arena, he would also score his very first NHL goal against the Penguins, but this time at TD Garden in Boston. Regardless, all his major milestones seem to be against the Penguins and with many happening at PPG arena, so it's very fitting for him to be joining that team.
"I've been thinking about that a lot," said Grzelcyk as per Michelle Crechiolo of Pens Inside Scoop. "It's a full-circle moment. Feels like something that was meant to be."
Grzelcyk has admitted that he was thinking a lot about those early days when all his major milestones came against the Penguins, and feels it could have been destiny to join the team, which is exactly what he did.
