The Penguins have been struggling for consistency throughout this season, and now they have sent Tristan Jarry home in hopes of finding his game once more.
This season has been a wild ride for the Pittsburgh Penguins already, as the team has posted a 3-4-1 record through eight games as they embark on a Western Canada road trip that has already taken them through Winnipeg and Calgary. Now, ahead of games in Edmonton and Vancouver, the team has made a shocking decision, revealing that they have sent star goaltender Tristan Jarry home as Alex Nedeljkovic and Joel Blomqvist take the reigns in net.
This comes on the heels of reported trade attempts of Jarry by the front office, with the 29-year old struggling to find his footing early in the year. After signing a five-year deal that carries an annual cap hit over $5 million, it's safe to see why other teams wouldn't take on the deal, and now the Penguins are seemingly looking to do anything to get him rolling once more.
When asked about the situation in net, Head Coach Mike Sullivan threw his support behind Jarry despite the veteran netminder not being at his best, and it appears the team will stick by him for now and look to get him going once more.
«The first couple of starts that he's had haven't been his best,» Sullivan said. «I'm probably stating the obvious when I say that. But it's our responsibility to help players through some of the struggles they inevitably go through in this league, and Tristan is no different.»
It's unclear how he will find his way back into the goaltending rotation with both Nedeljkovic and Blomqvist playing well this year, but if the team wants to find their way back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, they'll need him back and at his very best, so we will see if this can help them.
