Macklin Celebrini entered the NHL this season as the No. 1 overall pick with plenty of hype, and it's safe to say that his debut lived up to the expectation, as he would tally a goal and an assist despite the Sharks falling short. Unfortunately, after just one game, the former Boston University star has been dealing with some major setbacks, and it's set to keep him sidelined longer than expected.
According to General Manager Mike Grier, Celebrini remains week-to-week with a hip injury that limited him to just the debut game thus far in 2024/25, stating that it's likely to be two weeks from now until we get the latest update on the 18-year old superstar, per reporter Sheng Peng.
Last season at the NCAA level, Celebrini played in 38 games while tallying 32 goals and 32 assists, showing that he has the ability to score, assist his teammates and play a solid, physical game on both ends. Standing in at 6-foot-0, Celebrini has all the tools to be a star at the NHL level, and if his debut for San Jose showed us anything, it's that the future is very bright for the Sharks along with prospects such as Will Smith and Quentin Musty.
The injury situation early in the year is very concerning however, and while he remains skating, a hip injury isn't something that should be taken lightly, and given the hype around the No. 1 overall pick, it's easy to assume that the team will be very cautious as they look to get him back into the lineup.
