Currently, Hurricane Milton is causing immense damage to those in Florida in one of the biggest natural disasters that Florida has seen in quite some time, leaving a path of destruction and heartache in its wake. Recently, the NHL considered postponing the season opener for the Florida Panthers, and while it didn't end up happening, it became very clear that this situation was going to effect the league hugely.
Now, the official word has been handed down that the league has postponed the Tampa Bay Lightning home opener, originally set for October 12th against the Carolina Hurricanes.
In the official press release, the NHL gave no update on when we would see this game played out, but given the unbelievable tragedy that is going on in Tampa Bay and Florida right now, this will no doubt be of the least concern to many people in the area. This isn't the first time that a Lightning game has been postponed recently, with the effects of Hurricane Helene causing just that, and with the Panthers canceling their Stanley Cup ring ceremony, it's safe to say life has not been easy down in Florida for anyone.
In the grand scheme of things, the NHL means very little for those involved at this time, and with so much tragedy, it's safe to say that the entire season in Tampa Bay could be affected by this situation. This whole tragedy could potentially get worse before it gets better, with Hurricane Milton showing no signs of slowing down, so we send our condolences and prayers to anyone affected by the tragedy and hope that in this time you can find safety and shelter.
