Leafs call nine players up from the Marlies before must-win game 6
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that they've called up nine players from the Marlies before must-win game 6 against the Boston Bruins.
In the AHL, the Marlies were eliminated a few days ago by the Belleville Senators in the first round, and as we always see when a team gets eliminated, players with two-way contracts are called up to the big league. Dennis Hildeby, Kyle Clifford, Topi Niemela, Marshall Rifai, Maxime Lajoie, Alex Steeves, Mikko Kokkonen, Dylan Gambrell and Nick Abruzzese are now on the Maple Leafs' roster.
While many people believed that Kyle Clifford would get called up to play a game with the Maple Leafs, details emerged, suggesting that none of these players should play in the playoffs.
"This isn't anything. It's common for teams to call up their entire roster of NHL contracted players when the minor-league team is done."
"The Marlies are done so the Leafs recalled AHL players to be extras, as every playoff team does when their affiliate is eliminated.
Kyle Clifford was 1 of 9 guys called up. He's not going to play. It's just bait if anyone singles out his recall"
As they face elimination once again, the Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe should send the same line up that beat the Bruins in game 5 on the ice, unless Auston Matthews can play.
Details and updates will follow.
