Rumours are swirling that Matt Dumba is one of the defensemen that the Toronto Maple Leafs are targeting heading into the deadline, and now he has revealed how he rejected them in the past.

Dumba Reveals the Details of What Went Down Between Him and the Toronto Maple Leafs During Free Agency

There is no question that the Toronto Maple Leafs are desperate for a defenseman, as they proved by trading for Ilya Lyubushkin late last night after Mark Giordano went down with a head injury. With the Leafs still having some room to add on their blueline, many have speculated they may go after Matt Dumba, a player they courted during free agency.

Now, Dumba has revealed what happened between him and the Leafs during free agency, and how he rejected their offer this offseason.

«When the floodgates opened, there was a lot going on I just wanted to be patient,» Dumba said. «I knew I had a house in Arizona so I was waiting on that,»

Leafs In Trouble On the Blueline After Last Night

Obviously, this is only a consideration for Dumba as he had all the choices in the world during free agency. Now, though, this isn't likely to be a roadblock if the Leafs are offering the right price for Dumba's services. With Giordano out, even though the Leafs made a move for a blueliner last night, they still have some work to do in the trade market.

We will see what Brad Treliving and the Leafs can cook up over the next week before the deadline, or if they determine they have the blueline they want heading into the stretch.
